Meaning

Ryuji Nakamura (Architect)

Tokyo, like all other cities only contain things that have meaning to the inhabitants. Meaningless elements are expelled, leaving it filled only with meaningful ones. Urban studies, observation and development have all been carried out in order to locate the meaningful. People in a city that have developed in this way, read the meaning and use it accordingly. Therefore, if we were to look at Tokyo as without meaning, then I think a view of the city that we have never seen before would appear before our eyes.
