Traversing Tokyo

Vivienne Sato (Anbuilt-architect / Artist / Drag queen)

I possess many faces—the non-architect, artist, illustrator, party lover, drag queen, writer and film critic. Various words and deeds may be considered disruptive and unclear, but here in Tokyo, they possess a strange consistency. When there is no budget, time, or necessary connections to carry out a job, it has become an urban legend to say, ‘Ask Vivienne’, or at a party, when you are stuck for words, you can make time by asking, ‘Do you know Vivienne Sato?’ and if you do, you will often find some common subject to talk about. Recently I have been working on a display for a famous commercial brand and my hobby is keeping tarantulas. I believe that the existence of ‘Vivienne Sato’, as a person who traverses genres; possesses a unique aesthetic and philosophy and who can handle ‘Tokyo’ and ‘Contemporary’, is a true reflection of ‘Tokyo’.
