Transformation

Ayumi Shirao

Tokyo is a huge city that is receptive to all kinds of change to the appearance of its streets. An old house may be converted into a retro-general store, or an urban development project may transform a familiar shopping street into a faceless commercial complex, but all these changes are accepted as being part of Tokyo’s character. As someone who was born and raised here, I would like to share my thoughts on ‘Tokyo’s character’ using the Yanesen (Yanaka, Nezu and Sendagi) area as an example.
