Geoglyphs

Atsushi Sugita (Art Critic)

Everybody knows that what we think of as ‘Tokyo’ is not the real Tokyo. That is why the attempt to create a dictionary that addresses Tokyo from a pluralistic viewpoint must be considered meaningful. At the same time, everybody shares a vague feeling that they are part of the geoglyph that is Tokyo, even though they are unable to achieve an overall view of it. It is for this reason that all kinds of people drop by to offer their opinions. What does it mean to belong to something the behavior of which is impossible to comprehend? It brings to mind the work of Lingis and Solnit.
