Regarding Slowness

Koki Tanaka (Artist)

I was requested by Keisuke Ozawa of AIT to take part in the ‘Tokyo Jiten’ project and talk on the subject of Tokyo for approximately 15 minutes. However, when I heard this, my attention focused not on the subject of Tokyo so much as the time span of 15 minutes. I wondered how far I would be able to walk in fifteen minutes—it was not sufficient for me to walk from my wife’s parents’ home to the station. Next I wondered how much content would be required to talk for 15 minutes. I filled 3 pages of A4 paper with text and found that if I spoke slowly, I could make it last for approximately 15 minutes. In this way, it suddenly became a talk about speed. I therefore decided not to speak at an efficient pace, but rather to think slowly and put these thoughts into words.
