Memory-work

Mia Nakamura (Ph.D.)

Memory-work refers to ‘the process of reconsidering past acts of violence or injustice, in order to overcome the loss or trauma they caused, and imagine a better social system for the near future’ (Karen Till). In this session I will introduce the ‘Living Together Project’ that has been carried out in Tokyo over the last 10 years, using various art techniques in order to ‘retell’ it and by so doing, think about ‘memory-work’.
